Believe it or not this coming week marks 1 year since Danny Williams stepped down as the premier of this province.  A lot of us remember exactly where we were on the fateful November day when he announced he was stepping down.  Many people, myself included, figured he would run again for a 3rd term and then step down in the middle of the 2011-2015 election cycle.  Still like for the rest of his politcal career Danny Williams did things the way he wanted them, after 7 years as premier and 9 years as PC party leader he did all he had sat out to do when he started and decided to go out on top instead of hanging on the way a lot of other people have done in politics.  Danny Williams did a lot for this province and its people during his years as premier.  He brought to this province and its people an attitude of where we could be anything we wanted to be.  No longer was Newfoundland and Labrador the poor child of Canada and Canada's welfare province, we where a force to be reckoned with.  Our resources where developed to benefit us not other parts, whether it be with the Atlantic Accord, Terra Nova, Hibernia South, Hebron, etc.  The poll results he saw throughout his years as premier would have to be considered the envy of every other politician in this world.  When the book is wrote on Danny Williams' time as premier (Surprised it hasn't been done actually) a great chunk of the book will have to be focused on those poll results and how he was there for the people of this province.
Danny Williams was a tremendous premier and maybe if he had been around earlier the province's fishery could be in decent shape and we wouldn't see the current situation we see in no many outport communities around the island.  While Danny Williams has gone onto other things he is missed in the political arena, while Kathy Dunderdale has done an admirable job as premier, Danny Williams is still missed greatly by those of us who had the pleasure of working with him during his years as premier and those of us who lived here during that time, he truly was a great premier and the things he did for this province won't soon be replaced.
